About
Just a little bit about me!
I’m Cat, an engineer with a passion for cybersecurity. I have a B.S. in Physics from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
During several summers as an undergraduate, I worked at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory on the Mu2e project. I programmed FPGAs for the detector and designed PCBs for collecting temperature and radiation data inside it. I then went to Carnegie Mellon to specialize in circuits and signals. By chance, I took a few computer security courses during my first semester and fell in love with the field. After what felt like the longest year of keeping my head buried in books, I graduated and have worked as a penetration tester, bug bounty manager, and independent researcher ever since.
Off the Clock
Outside of cybersecurity, I love running, baking, and traveling. I never had much interest in racing, but I love trail running and have spent many days exploring national parks. My favorite trip was to Canyonlands near Moab, Utah. The views were incredible, and even though I visited in the middle of January, it was beautiful and just the right temperature for an adventure.
I plan to train for an R2R2R trip through the Grand Canyon someday, though an unfortunate celiac disease diagnosis set me back a bit. I’ll get there eventually. As for baking, I have grand dreams of opening my own bakery one day, but for now, I’ll stick to practicing.
I have a wonderful family in the beautiful country of New Zealand. While I’d love to travel all over the world, my favorite place will always be my second home.
